How does it work?
Watch Together uses WebRTC peer-to-peer connections (via PeerJS) to sync playback between two browsers directly — no server stores your video or chat data. When one person plays, pauses, or seeks, that action is instantly sent to the other person's browser and applied to their player.
Step by step
- Create a room: Enter your name and click "Create room" to get a unique room code.
- Share the link: Copy the room link and send it to your partner via any messaging app.
- Partner joins: They open the link, enter their name, and connect instantly.
- Find a video: Search by title and click a thumbnail — or paste a YouTube link directly. It loads on both screens either way.
- Watch in sync: Press play — both videos start simultaneously. Any seek or pause syncs too.
Tips
- Works best on Chrome or Firefox on desktop and mobile.
- The room link contains your room code — bookmark it to rejoin the same room later.
- Either person can control playback — there is no "host" lock on play/pause.
- Chat messages are only stored in memory and disappear when both users leave.

Can I watch any YouTube video?
Yes — search for any video by title or paste a public YouTube URL and it loads for both viewers simultaneously. Private or age-restricted videos that require login will not work.
How accurate is the sync?
Sync is peer-to-peer via WebRTC, which means it goes directly between your browsers without a server in the middle. Play, pause, and seek events typically sync within under a second.
Does it work on mobile?
Yes, Watch Together works on Chrome and Safari on both iOS and Android. For the best experience, use a desktop browser.
What happens if one person has a slow connection?
Each person streams YouTube directly from YouTube's servers, so video quality adjusts individually based on each person's connection speed. The sync events are tiny and work fine even on slow connections.
Is there a limit on how many people can join?
The current version is designed for two people — ideal for couples and pairs. The room is private and accessible only via the link you share.
Is there a watch together extension for Chrome?
No extension needed. Watch Together runs entirely in your browser as a web app. Just open the link and go.
